Chicago's DuSable Lake Shore Drive is undergoing a series of resurfacing projects that are set to impact traffic across different sections of the famed roadway. The North DuSable Lake Shore Drive construction is beginning next week, promising a smoother ride for drivers by late October but also a more challenging commute in the short term.

Detailing the specifics, the Chicago Department of Transportation (CDOT) has laid out a schedule that involves lane reductions and overnight closures. Chicago Sun-Times reports that the work will close some lanes in the evenings, between Hollywood and Lawrence avenues, spanning from Tuesday to Thursday next week. Particularly, Tuesday evening will see the northbound lanes reduced to two lanes at 7 p.m., with full closures kicking in by 9 p.m. and stretching till 6 a.m. the following morning.

In addition to the northbound disruptions, both directions of the roadway will face traffic restrictions come Wednesday. Lane reductions will again start at 7 p.m., with a complete overnight shutdown to facilitate the construction efforts, the Chicago Sun-Times details. The schedule progresses to the southbound side on Thursday, which, akin to previous days, will endure lane reductions in the evening and full closure overnight.

Further impacting movement downtown, construction on a lower part of DuSable Lake Shore Drive is already underway which affects the northbound lanes from Wacker Drive to Illinois Street, according to a report by ABC7 Chicago. This closure is slated to last approximately a week, and there are detours, CDOT has made available to help navigate around the construction area.
