A family is currently mourning the loss of Christopher Rhodes, 25, who was the victim of a fatal shooting in West Nashville. As WSMV reported, the incident took place on Saturday night at the Richland Hills Apartments, seriously shattering the lives of Rhodes' loved ones. His 3-year-old son witnessed the tragic event, with family members expressing concern over the lasting impact this moment may have on the young boy. "He keeps replaying what happened in his mind to us," Rhodes' relative Hardin said, "His daddy was fighting, his daddy was fighting, he saw someone shoot his daddy."
According to WKRN, the shooting occurred after Rhodes was approached by the suspect while he and his girlfriend were moving furniture. A physical altercation between Rhodes and the suspect, reportedly stemming from previous issues, quickly escalated. Witnesses then heard gunshots and saw the suspect quickly flee the scene in a car.
The Metro Nashville Police Department (MNPD) confirmed that Rhodes succumbed to his injuries at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. Information about the suspect and motives behind the tragic event remain sparse; however, officials have been actively looking for leads to apprehend the person responsible. "How much more can we take as a world, as a community, as human beings?" Hardin lamented in an interview obtained by WSMV, expressing a sentiment widely felt by the victim's family and the community.
As per Fox 17, homicide detectives are "pursuing strong leads" in hopes of quickly resolving the case. The police urge anyone with information about the shooter or their whereabouts to contact Crime Stoppers at 615-742-7463.
