A multi-agency manhunt culminated in the capture of an attempted murder suspect in Henry County last Friday. According to FOX17, the suspect, identified as Richard Sager, was arrested following a tip-off which led authorities to Cypress Road and Otts Rd., where Sager was believed to be located. Upon arrival, deputies found Sager's vehicle but he had already fled on foot.
The pursuit involved the Henry County Sheriff’s Office, Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP), Calloway County Sheriff’s Office, the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency and Tennessee State Park Rangers, who worked in conjunction to set up a containment perimeter. According to KBSI23, Sager, who had active warrants for criminal attempt to commit second-degree murder, was apprehended within approximately four hours of the police setting up the area cordon.
Authorities attribute the success of the operation to the cooperation between the various agencies, and particular note has been made of the THP Aviation Unit and EMA's drone usage in tracking the suspect down, as echoed in a statement obtained by WKRN, stating “Through the quick response of all agencies and the use of THP Aviation Unit and drone usage by EMA, law enforcement was able to apprehend Sager without incident.” No additional information about the specific nature of the incident that led to Sager's initial charge has been released at this time.
While this arrest may bring a degree of closure to the case, the details of the alleged attempted murder, including the when and where, or the circumstances that led to it, remain undisclosed.
