
A four-year-old girl died after a drowning incident in a Greenwood lake on Sunday night, marking a tragic end to a search initiated when she was reported missing earlier in the evening. The Greenwood Fire Department, prompted by concerns for the missing child, headed to the site at the 800 block of Padre Lane, not far from East Main Street and Sheek Road, around 9:15 p.m. on September 1, as reported by WTHR.
Upon arrival, a Greenwood police officer located the girl in a body of water behind a nearby home. WRTV communicated remarks by the Greenwood Fire Department's spokesperson, Tyler Swardson, "An officer with the police department did find the young girl in the water."
The evening's efforts were a race against time. According to FOX59, the police were on the scene within minutes of the call about the missing child, at approximately 9:14 p.m. A responding officer discovered the girl in a nearby pond and instantly took action, diving into the water to retrieve her and attempting resuscitation through CPR.
The Fire Department arrived at the scene by 9:18 p.m. and took over care of the young girl. Within ten minutes, first responders transported her to a local hospital. Despite all efforts to save her, she was pronounced dead at the hospital. The circumstances leading to the drowning are still under investigation. The girl had been visiting family and went missing, with her family searching for nearly an hour before police located her.
