There's a shake-up coming to the quarterback slot for the University of Utah Utes this weekend, with reports surfacing that Cam Rising, the team's starter, is likely to be on the sidelines due to a finger injury. Rising, who is key to Utah's offense, was injured in last Saturday's game against Baylor. While trying to turn a busted play into something salvageable, Rising got shoved out of bounds, unfavorably meeting with some water coolers, resulting in a banged-up throwing hand. Despite the setback, which Brett McMurphy of ActionNetwork was first on the scene to report, it's not all doom and gloom for the Utes – the injury isn't serious enough to keep him down for long, and Rising is "expected to return next week vs. Oklahoma State," McMurphy tweeted, per ABC4.

In Rising's stead, all eyes turn to Isaac Wilson, the unfazed freshman who has logged some field time in each of Utah's first two games. Wilson, who has already built a stat line of 104 passing yards with a touchdown and two interceptions, is tagged to be the starter in the coming "Battle of the Brothers" against Utah State in Logan. However, according to KSL Sports, Rising's injury, primarily affecting his throwing hand, will likely bench him this week but is not intense enough to sideline him for the longer haul.

Utah's coach Kyle Whittingham remains optimistic about Wilson's capability to fill the void, as he gears up for his potential starting quarterback debut. Wilson's performance in the previous games has hinted at his growing comfort on the field and Whittingham's confidence in him seems unshaken. "I think he’s going to continue to get better," Whittingham said of Wilson this week. "We certainly believe that and we have a lot of confidence in him," he said, as noted by Deseret News.
