An employee with the Marion County Forensic Services Agency in Indianapolis has been ensnared by the law he once served, facing serious charges related to child pornography. According to a FOX59 report, Kevin Riley, a local crime lab scientist, has been arrested on multiple counts of child exploitation and possession of child pornography.
The unsettling cascade of events began with alerts from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children in June, placing Riley in the crosshairs of an investigation led by the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department and the Indiana ICAC Task Force. The Lawyer Herald disclosed that Riley used the Canadian messaging app Kik under the guise of a woman, "Annie Bawdie," to share and supposedly, exchange illicit content involving himself and his wife for child pornography that included victims under 12 years old, some of which authorities believe to be generated by artificial intelligence.
In a sting that eventually led to his doorstep, investigators traced the IP address associated with the online accounts harboring the child pornography to Riley's abode and digital devices. On September 12, authorities executed a search warrant at his residence on the northwest side of Indianapolis, as reported by WISH-TV. Adding a disturbing personal detail, investigators noted that one of the pictures uploaded featured his wedding band—an inadvertent signature left on a dossier of depravity.
The implications of such actions by a forensic scientist are not lost on the institution that embodies public trust and scientific integrity in matters of law enforcement. "As an agency dedicated to serving the public safety community, we find these allegations profoundly disturbing and disgraceful," said the Indianapolis-Marion County Forensic Services Agency in a state of shock and disbelief. Riley’s wife, initially drawn into the fray due to his impersonation, has been questioned and released, the police said he "acted" ignorant of Kik, the platform central to the allegations levied against him, as reported by FOX 59.
