Eralier today, the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department responded to a fatal shooting incident at the Westmont Apartments on the city's near northeast side. FOX59 reports that officers were dispatched shortly before 12:30 a.m. to the 1500 block of Lewis Street, following a call concerning a domestic disturbance.
The responding officers found an adult male with a gunshot wound in the apartment complex's hallway. Despite their swift arrival and efforts to save the man’s life, he was pronounced dead at the scene. As to swiftly establish the events that unfolded, police currently have a person of interest in custody. They also stressed that this incident appears to be an isolated event and as of now, poses no further threat to the community, according to details shared by WTHR.
Later today, the Marion County Coroner’s Office identified the deceased as 24-year-old Raylon Lamont Matthews, as noted by FOX59.
As investigations continue into the circumstances surrounding this tragic event, IMPD urges the public to come forward with any information that might offer insights into the shooting.
