Tragedy struck the community of Logan, Utah, as the body of 77-year-old Dennis Shaw was discovered in a remote area of Logan Canyon. The Cache County Sheriff’s Office confirmed on Saturday, that Shaw, a resident, was the homicide victim found by a passerby in the Franklin Basin area the day before. In a turn of events, authorities have arrested Shaw’s 33-year-old son, Clayton Shaw, in connection with his father’s death.
The investigation unfolded rapidly after the initial discovery. According to FOX 13, the Cache County Sheriff's Office confirmed that the area where the body was found was examined for evidence, and several search warrants were executed at residences and vehicles associated with the Shaw family. The elder Shaw’s white Ford F-150 truck and the accused's black BMW are of particular interest to detectives. They ask the public to come forward with any information about these vehicles or the case, and tips can be submitted to their office.
As reported by ABC4, the victim was found 25 miles away from his Logan residence, the body was believed to have been transported to Logan Canyon postmortem. Authorities kept Dennis Shaw’s house under surveillance, which led them to encounter Clayton Shaw at the premises. A subsequent “high-risk traffic stop” resulted in the discovery of a blade and cleaning fluid in the son’s BMW, items consistent with the crime scene and the victim’s injuries.
As detailed by KUTV, during questioning at the Cache County Sheriff’s Office, Clayton Shaw denied any involvement in the killing of his father. Despite his denials, officials stated that they found sufficient evidence in the vehicle, including human blood droplets in the trunk, to charge Shaw with murder. The Franklin Basin area parking lot, a site that was temporally sealed off for investigation, has since been reopened to the public as the case continues to unfold.
