A man was fatally shot on the north side of Indianapolis on Friday night, prompting an investigation by the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD). As reported by FOX59, the shooting took place around 7:55 p.m. near West 79th Street and Harcourt Road on the 7700 block of Kenworthy Drive. Upon responding to a report of a person shot, IMPD officers discovered an adult male with gunshot wounds.
Initially, the victim was reported to be in critical condition but was later pronounced dead at the scene, as confirmed in a statement obtained by WRTV, around 9:30 p.m. Striking a nearby apartment building after the shooting, the vehicle the victim was driving resulted in no injuries to the apartment's residents. Further emphasizing the lack of threat to the public, police do not believe there is any ongoing danger.
IMPD Capt. Rob Rider commented on the incident, indicating that the victim's vehicle collision with the apartment was secondary to the shooting. Detectives are actively reviewing video surveillance and interviewing potential witnesses in an effort to piece together the events that led to this deadly incident. Despite their efforts, as of the latest updates, no suspects have been apprehended and the motive behind the shooting remains unclear.
