The City of Round Rock is taking significant steps to expand its public works facilities, as the City Council recently voted to proceed with the construction of further phases at the Bob Bennett Complex. Once complete, the complex will house the Community and Neighborhood Services and General Services Departments, enhancing the capabilities of the city's public service operations. The expansion will occur in multiple phases, aimed at accommodating the growth and needs of the city’s various departments.

In a meeting that took place on Sept. 12, the council selected a Construction Manager at Risk for the upcoming development, indicating the city's commitment to taking decisive, timely action to grow its infrastructure. The first phase, concluded in 2019, brought several administrative and operational functions under one roof, aiming to boost efficiency and collaboration among city workers. According to an official statement from the city, Jacobs Engineering Group Inc. has been contracted to design the additional phases, with a clear outlook extending beyond initial 2035 objectives.

The meticulous planning for Phase 2 focuses on the east portion of the complex, primarily expanding the main building to support the Transportation field staff and operations. Additional space is also set to be created for Utilities and Environmental Services staff. A notable aspect of this phase is the construction of new buildings intended specifically for Community and Neighborhood Services, which are currently operating out of the Round Rock City Hall, as reported by the City of Round Rock. The commencement of construction for this phase is slated for June 2025 with an expected completion by the following year.

The subsequent phase, Phase 3, will erect a new facility dedicated to General Services Fleet Maintenance. This facility is designed to not only maintain a wide range of city vehicles equipped with the latest technology but also to offer enough space to adequately grow with the city’s expanding fleet. Work on this project is anticipated to begin in July 2026, with a completion target set for mid-2028.

Finally, Phase 4 of the complex's expansion is detailed to provide a home for facility maintenance, building construction management, and administrative offices for the General Services Department. This phase underscores the city's long-term strategy for maintaining and updating its infrastructure efficiently. The groundbreaking for this phase will happen in August 2028, as per the City of Round Rock, and it is projected to reach completion within a year's time span.
