
Following recent violence in downtown Salt Lake City, a 31-year-old man, identified as Jowil Charles, has been detained by the Salt Lake City Police Department's Gang Unit on accusations including felony discharge of a firearm and unlawful possession of a controlled substance. As detailed by FOX 13, Charles was apprehended near 4900 South State Street on Tuesday.
An associated incident left two people injured from gunshot wounds. A 30-year-old man was found in a parking lot with nine gunshot wounds and remains in critical condition, while a 24-year-old woman was discovered with a wound to her calf after being caught in the crossfire, as obtained by ABC4. The names of the victims have not been released to the public.
In a related turn of events, Alexander James Ross, 32, has been arrested in connection with the shooting. Ross, however, is also linked to an August 19th high-speed chase that ended in a severe crash. According to KSL, the incident resulted in two people being critically injured. The male victim sustained a multitude of severe injuries, including "10 broken ribs, bleeding to the spleen which had to be removed, a fractured orbital socket, an aorta contusion, and a collapsed lung," and was "near cardiac arrest levels" in terms of blood pressure.
Ross was apprehended following the crash at a nearby store at Jordan Landing. Investigators recovered vacuum-sealed bags of marijuana, ecstasy, and drug paraphernalia from his wrecked car. Additionally, he faces charges in Davis County for drug possession with intent to distribute, among other offenses including unlawful possession of a bank card and failing to stop at the command of police.
