Two individuals lost their lives in a head-on collision in Tippecanoe County Monday evening. The devastating incident occurred just before 5 p.m. on County Road 800 South near the small community of West Point, located approximately 16 miles southwest of Lafayette. According to information from the FOX59, a maroon 2000 Chevrolet Blazer veered across the center line and collided with a light blue 2006 Toyota Prius traveling in the opposite direction.

The Chevrolet Blazer flipped onto the roadway, and the Toyota Prius ejected into a neighboring cornfield. The severity of the crash left both vehicles in ruins, and their drivers, who were each alone in their respective vehicles, were confirmed dead at the scene. The WTHR notes that the Blazer was traveling westbound and the Prius eastbound during the time of the head-on collision.

County Road 800 South was closed for about four hours for investigation and cleanup after a crash. WISH-TV reports that the reason the Chevrolet Blazer crossed into oncoming traffic is unknown.

Tippecanoe County officials will release the identities of the deceased once the next of kin have been notified. The Tippecanoe County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the crash and has not yet shared further details with the public.
