A serious collision in Shelby County sent two individuals to the hospital on Tuesday morning, according to law enforcement reports. The Shelby County Sheriff’s Department responded to an accident involving a passenger car and a dump truck on SR244 around 8:15 a.m.
The collision occurred when the dump truck, traveling eastbound, dropped off the edge of the south side of the road and overcorrected, which caused it to come back onto the road to then strike the westbound passenger car head-on. As a result, the driver of the passenger car sustained serious injuries and was airlifted to an area hospital. The FOX59 report detailed these events, shedding light on the harrowing crash that unfolded just west of the Liberty Township Schoolhouse No. 2.
The dump truck driver was hurt in the crash and taken to the hospital. We don’t know their condition yet. Local authorities are investigating to understand what caused the accident.
The crash happened near the intersection of County Road South 600 East and State Road 244, about 12 minutes southeast of Shelbyville. WTHR notes that the area is close to historical landmarks like the Liberty Township Schoolhouse No. 2.
The area was temporarily closed after the crash. Emergency responders worked to clear the scene and investigate.
