Border security at the Otay Mesa Commercial Facility had a significant find at the start of October when they uncovered methamphetamine with a street value exceeding $3.2 million hidden meticulously within the confines of a tractor-trailer's floor frame. In a detailed account of the bust, customs officers discovered it last Thursday at the port of entry, according to a press release from the U.S. Customs and Border Protection.

The driver, a 40-year-old man with a border crossing card, was driving the commercial vehicle from Mexico into the United States when the CBP officers, following an initial inspection, referred him for a detailed check. As the officers used non-intrusive imaging technology, anomalies prompting further inspection within the vehicle's floor frame were identified by the officers. A CBP K-9 unit responded promptly, indicating the presence of the narcotics.

Upon closer examination, "CBP officers conducted a physical examination of the tractor-trailer’s floor and discovered 265 packages hidden within the floor frame," the CBP report stated. These packages were tested and confirmed as methamphetamine, weighing around 2,686 pounds. Otto Mesa's Port Director, Rosa E. Hernandez, lauded her team following the apprehension, "I am extremely proud of our dedicated workforce," she said. "Our officers are always vigilant and work hard to ensure our border security is not compromised and to protect our communities from dangerous drugs."
