Following a DUI-related collision on a busy Bay Area freeway, California Highway Patrol officers have taken a ghost gun, an untraceable firearm, off the streets. The crash, westbound I-80 to Cutting Boulevard, drew CHP Oakland Area responders to the scene at about 9:00 a.m. yesterday. A white Subaru SUV and a grey Chevrolet sedan were involved, with the latter's driver subsequently undergoing a DUI investigation, according to CHP Oakland.

During their investigation, CHP officers discovered more than evidence of impaired driving. The Chevrolet's driver reportedly had admitted to possession of a firearm, leading officers to uncover a ghost gun concealed within a purple backpack in the vehicle.

The driver, now facing multiple charges, was arrested and booked into the Martinez Detention Facility. The charges pending against the driver include DUI and firearms violations.
