
Early this morning, El Cerrito residents were jolted by a shooting incident on the 1800 block of Elm St. According to the El Cerrito Police Department, officers responded around 10:30 a.m. after receiving calls of gunshots being heard. Upon their swift arrival, they discovered one individual wounded and managed to detain another person identified as the shooter.
The injured party was promptly airlifted to a local trauma center to receive medical care; their condition remains undisclosed. Members from the Richmond and Kensington police departments assisted the El Cerrito Police in their immediate efforts to cordon off the area. During the chaos, Summit K2 school was placed on a temporary lockdown as a precaution.
Authorities have yet to unravel the motivations behind the event, the El Cerrito Police Department stating that "The nature of the shooting is under investigation." School officials, relaying updates to concerned parents, lifted the lockdown post haste after the area was declared secure.
