Residents of the Lower Valley in El Paso received a jarring start to their weekend when a water main break led to the creation of a sinkhole early Saturday morning. The incident, which unfolded around 6:30 a.m. at the 200 block of John Andreas Drive near Ysleta Middle School, caused the pavement to crumble open, endangering a vehicle that was ultimately damaged in the event, as reported by KVIA.
According to the utility, the sinkhole was precipitated by an eight-inch main break. The rupture forced officials to dispatch repair teams to mend the water line and restore water service to the affected residents. "Crews were dispatched to repair the water line and restore water to area residents that were impacted by the main break," a spokeswoman for El Paso Water elucidated, as obtained by KVIA.
No injuries were reported as a result of the incident, as KFOX-TV reports, despite the scare and subsequent complications due to the sinkhole.
Efforts to resolve the disruption pressed on throughout the day, and by approximately 7:30 p.m., El Paso Water reported that water service had been reinstated. "As of about 7:30 p.m., water service was restored in the area," confirmed El Paso Water, as noted by KTSM. The repair work underscored the resilience of utility crews in facing such unexpected infrastructural failures.
