The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department is intensively searching for an armed individual on the west side of the city after an altercation that occurred today early morning. According to FOX59, the episode began when officers responded to a report of a suspicious person tampering with a box truck in the 5000 block of West Raymond Street. The situation escalated quickly, leading to a physical confrontation between an officer and the suspect that resulted in the latter pointing a gun at the officer, though no shots were eventually discharged.
The manhunt involves drones, K9 units, and SWAT officers to search the area and ensure public safety. Nearby schools were briefly placed on lockdown as a precaution, but the lockdowns have been lifted, as per WRTV.
The IMPD used the social platform X to advise the public to avoid West Raymond Street near South Lynhurst Drive. Despite an extensive search, authorities confirmed by 10:19 a.m. that the suspect was still at large, according to a report by WTHR.
