The city of Fort Wayne was shaken after a deadly shooting at a high school party on Manistee Drive claimed one life and left ten others injured. The Fort Wayne Police Department responded to emergency calls around 10:30 p.m. Saturday about shots being fired and people running from a residence in every direction, as reported by FOX59.
The location of the incident, which is nestled in a suburban neighborhood on Fort Wayne’s northeast side, quickly transformed from a teenage celebration into a scene of chaos and tragedy. Officers arriving described the environment as "chaotic," according to WISH-TV.
Details emerging from preliminary investigations, as mentioned by WTHR, indicate that the shooting erupted at a get-together predominantly attended by high school students. Amongst the attendees, eleven were struck by bullets, with one succumbing to their injuries at the scene.
As investigations continue, the motives and the number of suspects involved remain unknown. The ten other victims have sustained non-life-threatening injuries. Police have not yet released the names or ages of any of the victims, maintaining a focus on fact-finding in these initial hours. Authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward and contact the FWPD at 260-427-1201 or Crime Stoppers at 260-436-7867.
