Tragedy struck Indianapolis' northeast side in the early hours of Monday, as at least one person was pronounced dead following a vehicle fire resulting from a crash. The incident occurred near the intersection of Binford Boulevard and Delmar Road, close to 52nd Street. WTHR reports that the Indianapolis Fire Department responded to the scene around 3 a.m., finding the car already deeply engulfed in flames.
The aftermath of the crash was noted by News 8 photojournalist Nate Amaya, who observed the vehicle had crashed into a wooded area off Binford Boulevard, according to WISH-TV. While investigators have not yet provided details on what led up to the crash, or whether anyone else was injured, the scene was somber as emergency crews worked amid the predawn hush, shattered by this fatal incident.
The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) fatal crash investigation team has taken charge of the inquiry, striving to piece together the circumstances that led to the tragedy. The identity of the victim, or victims, has not been disclosed, with no further information on other potential casualties or the sequence of events leading up to the crash being immediately available. According to FOX59, the IMPD confirmed that the fire arose as a direct consequence of the crash.
