Earlier today, tragedy struck on Indianapolis' near northeast side when a pedestrian was fatally hit in a crash and the responsible vehicle fled the scene. The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) arrived at the 2600 block of N. Keystone Avenue around 5 a.m. after receiving reports of a person down, as per WRTV. First responders found the victim, a male, in the roadway and he was pronounced dead on the scene by medics.
The area of the incident is known as the Martindale-Brightwood neighborhood, a detail confirmed by an IMPD spokesperson in WTHR's report. The fatal crash investigation team is currently handling the investigation, which caused the closure of Keystone Avenue in both directions for several hours. IMPD has asked the public to aid the investigation by providing any information or surveillance footage.
In an effort to apprehend the suspect responsible for the hit-and-run, IMPD is canvassing the area and have urged anyone with information to come forward. Authorities have not yet released the identity of the victim, pending notification of family by the Marion County Coroner’s Office. The identity will be disclosed once the appropriate notifications have been made, as stated in the report from FOX59.
The IMPD has not released specifics about the suspect or potential vehicle involved in the hit-and-run.
