A blaze sparked by a recreational vehicle led to the evacuation of several homes and the closure of a major intersection in Poway yesterday, as reported by FOX5 San Diego. The fire began near the Scripps Ranch neighborhood around 3:35 p.m., with firefighters from Cal Fire and the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department responding.
By 6 p.m., the teams had halted the fire's advancement after it had consumed one and a half acres. According to NBC San Diego, the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department later revealed that the fire had started from an RV before spreading to adjacent brush. Around 10 homes were evacuated near Old Stone Road, Caneridge Road, and Oakview Way. Fortunately, those residents were allowed back into their homes by the evening.
Road closures included the intersection of Scripps Poway Parkway and Pomerado Road, a key transit route for area motorists. The City of Poway issued a social media alert urging residents to avoid that area. Through the concerted efforts of firefighting personnel, the road was reopened just after 7 p.m. yesterday.
During the emergency, evacuated residents were directed to a nearby elementary school as a temporary shelter, and the San Diego County Sheriff's Department coordinated the evacuation process.
