Early yesterday morning, a second-alarm fire blazed through the abandoned In Cahoots building and surrounding trees in Mission Valley, prompting a full response from the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department. According to a social media post by the department, calls started coming in around 1:40 a.m., and firefighters were deployed to address the rapidly spreading fire on Mission Center Rd.
In response to the intensity of the inferno, which rapidly enveloped the structure and the trees behind it, an incident commander called for a second alarm response at 1:48 a.m. The San Diego Fire-Rescue Department's Metro Arson Strike Team was also brought in to investigate the origins of the fire. Despite the challenges, the fire crew's efforts ensured that no adjacent structures suffered damage and that there were no reported injuries
The battle with the blaze continued well yesterday, with fresh crews of firefighters arriving to relieve their colleagues. A follow-up update from San Diego Fire-Rescue at 9:04 a.m. indicated that the situation was still active and that fire crews would remain on scene for the remainder of the day.
The fire's impact on the local area was mitigated partly due to traffic control established by the San Diego Police Department along Mission Center Rd. Information on the cause of the fire remains under investigation, and updates are anticipated as the arson team proceeds with its inquiry.
