A tragic event unfolded in Muncie as a 14-year-old boy driving a stolen vehicle caused a serious crash at the intersection of E. 18th St. and S. Madison St. Reports from the Muncie Police Department. According to WTHR, the young driver was traveling at a high rate of speed before the collision which resulted in critical injuries to a 52-year-old woman.
The incident also left the youthful driver and a passenger, an 18-year-old female, critically injured. Two other passengers in the stolen car, a 14-year-old, and a 10-year-old girl, sustained injuries ranging from critical to minor, as reported by WISH-TV. The MPD has yet to publicly release any names, including that of the teenage driver now facing multiple preliminary charges.
A detailed account by CBS4 Indy reveals the 14-year-old has been arrested and charged with robbery, aggravated battery, auto theft, and criminal recklessness resulting in catastrophic injury, among other offenses. These charges stem from events leading up to the crash, where the teenager is alleged to have assaulted and then stolen a vehicle from the owner.
