
The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District has appointed Tiffany J. Preston as the District Election Officer. This decision, made ahead of the November 5 election, aims to ensure that election day operations are free from discrimination, interference, or threats of violence. Preston, an Assistant United States Attorney, will manage complaints and collaborate with the Justice Department Headquarters in Washington, according to the United States Attorney’s Office.
U.S. Attorney Zachary A. Myers emphasized the importance of protecting voters and election officials. He stated, "Every citizen must be able to vote without interference or discrimination and to have that vote counted in a fair and free election." Myers also warned against threats to election officials or staff. Preston will serve as the public's point of contact for reporting possible federal election law violations while the polls are open, as stated by the United States Attorney’s Office.
Voting Rights Act to ensure voters can cast their ballots freely and receive necessary assistance. Citizens with concerns about voting rights or potential election fraud are strongly encouraged by Myers to step forward and inform the Department of Justice. On election day, Preston can be reached at the Southern District office at 317-226-6333, while the local FBI field office is available at 317-595-4000 to handle allegations of election abuses. Complaints about federal voting rights violations can also be submitted to the Justice Department's Civil Rights Division in Washington, DC, as reported by the United States Attorney’s Office.
