
A fatal collision involving a semi and a passenger vehicle in Lake County, Indiana, claimed the life of a 19-year-old driver and left two teens with life-threatening injuries. According to ABC 7 Chicago, the accident occurred around 11:45 a.m. yesterday, near West 181st Avenue and Harrison Street.
Sheriff Oscar Martinez Jr. informed, as the passenger vehicle was trying to turn west, it collided with an eastbound semi. The young driver, just 19, was pronounced deceased at the scene. In the rear of the vehicle, suffering life-threatening injuries, a 14 and 15-year-old were airlifted to Chicago hospitals, their conditions unknown at the time. The semi's 67-year-old driver escaped unharmed from the ordeal.
Multiple sources are reporting on the tragic event, including WISH-TV News which confirmed the fatality of the 19-year-old and serious condition of the two teenagers.
The Lake County Sheriff's Department Crash Reconstruction Team is investigating this heartrending incident. "Although there are no words that can ease the pain of those touched by this tragedy, my heart truly goes out to the family and other loved ones of those involved," stated by Sheriff Martinez obtained by ABC 7 Chicago.
WGN-TV further added that the sheriff's office had initially reported the passenger vehicle was making a left turn onto West 181st Avenue when the eastbound semi struck them.
