Within just twelve hours, U.S. Border Patrol agents in San Diego made two significant drug busts on Interstate 5. As reported on the Customs and Border Protection's official website, the first event unfolded Wednesday afternoon when agents from the San Clemente Station pulled over a sedan and found plastic-wrapped packages inside green trash bags, which upon inspection tested positive for heroin, totaling 11.79 pounds. The seizure led to the confiscation of the vehicle and the suspected narcotics, and the driver was turned over to the San Diego Sheriff’s Office.

Shortly after that, in the early hours of Thursday, a suspicious pickup truck was stopped by the same agency agents, and a K-9 team alerted them to contraband in the truck’s battery compartment, wherein agents discovered packages that tested positive for fentanyl with a total weight of five pounds, according to the published report. Both the narcotics and the pick-up were seized and the driver faced criminal prosecution as a result, this incident and the prior one both representing the tireless efforts to intercept the flow of illegal drugs.

San Diego Sector Chief Patrol Agent Patricia McGurk-Daniel emphasized, as per CBP's news release, "Transnational Criminal Organizations continue to use Interstate 5 as a key corridor to smuggle drugs from the border to the interior of the United States," we remain committed to disrupting these criminal networks and safeguarding our communities.
