
A tragic incident unfolded on the bustling Magnificent Mile in Chicago, where a woman, 43, lost her life after falling from the roof of a building Wednesday evening. The Chicago Tribune reports that the fall occurred around 6:30 p.m. on the 600 block of North Michigan Avenue, an area known for its shopping district. The woman, whose identity was withheld pending notification of next of kin, was pronounced dead at the scene, with an autopsy scheduled for Friday.
Following the incident, a disturbance involving a large congregation was witnessed near the Starbucks Reserve Roastery at 646 N. Michigan Ave., as per CBS News Chicago. In response to the fatal incident and the gathering, the Office of Emergency Management and Communications decided southbound Michigan Avenue needed to be shut down at Erie Street. Traffic resumed its normal flow when the roadway reopened by about 7:30 p.m.
At present, Chicago police have released minimal information regarding the circumstances that led to the woman's fall. Police confirmed that Belmont Area detectives have initiated a preliminary death investigation to uncover further details.
