Fourteen individuals have found themselves on the business end of an indictment, courtesy of a Lawrence-based drug trafficking sweep. From October 23 to October 31, these defendants were rounded up both in New Hampshire and Massachusetts, facing charges of conspiracy in the distribution of fentanyl, as announced by U.S. Attorney Jane Young. Their court proceedings began unfolding last week.
Among those in custody are Franly Herrera-Herrera, a 24-year-old from Methuen, MA, and Yoefferman Robles Soto, from Boston, MA, aged 22, both of whom could face a minimum of 10 years behind bars – such is the weight of the mandatory minimum penalties they're shouldering due to the breadth of their alleged involvement. Concord's Jade Markham, 27, and Pembroke's Hope Cassin, 33, remain at large. Having been released on supervised conditions is Daniel Mendez Ubri, 25, of Lawrence, MA, standing out amongst his counterparts who are detained, according to a statement obtained by the Department of Justice.
The bust was the culmination of collaborative law enforcement efforts under the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETF) program. These defendants have inadvertently become part of a narrative much larger than themselves – one of a persistent societal and judicial struggle against the scourge of narcotics peddling, as revealed by the Department of Justice.
