A 62-year-old man sustained critical injuries when a bullet pierced through his West Side Chicago home's window and struck him in the head, officials reported. The incident took place around 3:21 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day, in the 4000 block of West Monroe Street in the West Garfield Park area, according to CBS News Chicago. The shattered glass of a second-floor window marked the violent entry of the gunfire.
The victim was urgently transported to Mount Sinai Hospital for immediate care as police began an investigation into the circumstances of the shooting, although no arrests had been made at the time, the bullet seemed unprompted, an abrupt interrupter of a day which should have been marked with gratitude, not violence. Harrison Area detectives are on the case, as reported by ABC7 Chicago.
Just one week prior, Sabrina Hunter, a 47-year-old grandmother, survived a head wound caused by a bullet that came through her South Side home. "I just felt something hit me like a blow," Hunter recounted in an interview with ABC7 Chicago.
The Chicago Police are treating the shootings of the man and Hunter as separate incidents, and so far, there remains no one in custody for either case. On-site officers were seen collecting evidence inside the West Side home.
