A recent spate of armed robberies has afflicted the 003rd (Grand Crossing) District, according to a community alert from the Chicago Police Department. Victims of these crimes, all male individuals walking in the South Shore and West Englewood neighborhoods, were confronted by one to two armed assailants, who brandished a handgun and forcibly took their belongings before fleeing on foot.
The alert specifies that the incidents occurred over the past weeks, with the most recent ones on Wednesday. With a clear pattern emerging, the offenders—described as African-American males sporting black hooded sweatshirts and ski masks—hit the South Shore area twice along with one West Englewood location.
Residents are encouraged to maintain vigilance and report any odd or suspicious activities to the authorities immediately. Should one find themselves in a confrontation, the CPD advises remaining calm and trying to note any distinguishing features of the assailant that could aid in their identification and capture. Pursuing a fleeing suspect is strongly discouraged for safety reasons. Instead, witnesses should reach out to law enforcement with any details that could be pertinent.
