
A late-night altercation in Chicago's South Shore neighborhood resulted in a police officer and another individual being stabbed, authorities reported Tuesday. The incident, which occurred around 11 p.m. Monday, began when officers responded to a call in the 1500 block of East 75th Street, where a man reported being attacked by an acquaintance. According to the Chicago Sun-Times, the situation escalated as police attempted to detain the suspect.
In the ensuing confrontation, one officer sustained a stab wound to the arm before the suspect was subdued with a Taser and taken into custody. Despite the violence of the event, both victims have been listed in stable conditions, with the officer being labeled in "good condition" and the initial stabbing victim described as "fair," as reported by local authorities to ABC 7 Chicago. The suspect, whose identity has not been disclosed, is currently held by the police.
Further details surrounding the motive and relationship between the suspect and the first victim remain under investigation. The entire block was closed off to pedestrian and vehicular traffic well into the early hours of the morning, as detectives combed the scene for evidence to construct a detailed account of the events.
Both victims received immediate medical attention with the injured officer being taken to a nearby hospital and the other victim rushed to Northwestern Memorial Hospital.
