The Chicago Police Department has issued a community alert, urging residents in the Rogers Park neighborhood to be vigilant following a robbery incident on the CTA Red Line. According to the official report, two young men attempted to rob a passenger but met resistance. The altercation turned physical, leading the suspects to assault the passenger with closed fists.
The attempted theft occurred in the 1100 block of West Granville on November 13, 2024, at approximately 10:40 p.m. Eyewitnesses and victims alike are encouraged to come forward with any information they may have. Chicago PD has provided descriptions of the alleged offenders, both African American males estimated to be between 18 and 19 years of age. One is wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt bearing a "Chicago-The Windy City" emblem, and the other is wearing black Nike apparel and a ski mask.
Authorities are emphasizing personal awareness and caution, especially during transit times. Community members are advised to be alert to suspicious activity and to prioritize safety over possession in the event of a robbery. CPD further advises against chasing after suspects, instead focusing on retaining any distinctive features of the assailants such as scars, tattoos, or other identifiable marks, that could aid in their identification and capture.
