A tragic incident unfolded at the Rosewalk Assisted Living facility on Indianapolis's east side, where a distressing altercation led to gunfire, leaving one man dead and another injured. The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department responded to the emergency around 7:15 p.m. yesterday, with officers discovering a male victim with gunshot wounds upon arrival. According to WRTV, the individual was transported in "very" critical condition to Methodist Hospital, but he succumbed to his injuries.
The situation escalated when a female employee reportedly allowed her boyfriend inside the facility, eventually engaging in a conflict with another employee. "Shots were fired as a result of their altercation," detailed by WRTV. Although authorities have stated there is no ongoing danger to the public, the community is reckoning with the reality of this violence permeating a space designed for care and respite.
A second victim, believed to be involved in the incident, reported their injuries shortly after and was later confirmed to be in stable condition at Eskenazi Hospital. This shooting appears to have been an isolated event, with IMPD confirming the attack was targeted. As reported by WTHR, the identity of the deceased will be released post family notification, as the Marion County Coroner's Office conducts standard identification protocols.
The authorities are actively investigating the case, with the facility cooperating to provide any necessary surveillance footage and witness accounts to support the inquiry. IMPD is urging anyone with insights or information on the event to come forward. "Anyone with information is asked to contact IMPD," as per an official statement obtained by WRTV.
