A tragic occurrence unfolded on Indianapolis's west side earlier today, as a vehicular calamity resulted in at least one fatality on I-70 westbound, in the vicinity of the Holt Road exit. As reported by WTHR, an individual was confirmed dead by the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT), with the accident occurring just shy of 1 a.m., although as of now, it remains uncertain whether other injuries were sustained.
The Indiana State Police began investigating the specifics of the collision shortly after 12:30 a.m.; however, they have not disclosed details on the number of vehicles involved or the exact nature of the injuries, as reported by FOX59. Traffic came to a standstill, and as part of the immediate response, all westbound lanes between Tibbs Avenue and Holt Road were closed until the obstruction was cleared at 6:30 a.m. Traffic had been diverted to Harding Street but is now flowing normally following the resolution of the incident.
The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department responded post-haste to the unfortunate event, which took place near the 77-mile marker, a stretch bordered by Belmont Avenue and South Harding Street, as detailed by WISH-TV. IMPD, along with other agencies, took on the challenging task of examining the crash site. Despite the pre-dawn darkness, they began the difficult process of investigating the circumstances surrounding the sudden death.
