Flames engulfed the former site of Anthony's Cummaquid Inn in Yarmouth Port last night, prompting a large-scale response from multiple fire departments. A social media post from the Yarmouth Fire Department states that the call came in at 18:28 yesterday, after a passerby reported the structure fire at 2 Route 6A. The fire was already showing its ferocity with heavy fire visible from the road upon the first unit's arrival.
The Yarmouth Fire Department, along with crews from Barnstable, Dennis, and Hyannis, responded to a fast-spreading fire that threatened nearby buildings and brush. To assist, the Barnstable and Yarmouth water departments increased water supplies. Firefighters worked through the night to control the blaze, which escalated to a second alarm, drawing in additional units from Brewster and Hyannis. Mutual aid stations covered Yarmouth from Centerville, Chatham, Dennis, and Orleans
The fire's cause is still under investigation by Yarmouth Fire and the State Fire Marshal’s Office. One firefighter sustained a minor injury, but no civilians were harmed. Yarmouth Building Officials and Police also supported on scene, as crews continue examining debris to determine the origin.
