An overnight standoff on the city's east side concluded early this morning with a suspect in custody, reported the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD). The incident, which spanned nearly seven hours, unfolded without injuries to the involved woman, officers, or the surrounding community.

According to FOX59, IMPD officers responded to a call at around 12:44 a.m. about a person armed at a residence within the 200 block of S. Gladstone Ave. IMPD Deputy Chief Tanya Terry indicated that a woman had reportedly been held at gunpoint before she managed to escape and was located by responding officers.

Negotiations stretched on for multiple hours after the suspect, barricaded in the home, discharged a firearm at officers attempting a forced entry. As the situation escalated, IMPD deployed flash-bangs and tear gas in an effort to safely resolve the standoff. A statement obtained by WISH-TV outlined that the standoff continued until the suspect was arrested "without incident" around 4:25 a.m.

After the standoff, the suspect was taken to a local hospital in good condition, according to IMPD. Details about the cause of the standoff or any charges have not been released. However, IMPD confirmed there is no ongoing threat to the community. The incident concluded around 4:30 a.m. on today, as reported by WTHR, which reported the incident concluded around 4:30 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 7.

Deputy Chief Terry commended the officers for their endurance and negotiation efforts during an intense and threatening situation.
