An Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officer, Shane Decker, has been charged with a series of felonies including voyeurism and official misconduct after he was found to have recorded sexual encounters without the consent of the women involved while he was on duty and dressed in full uniform. According to WRTV, the evidence was discovered on a flash drive left in an IMPD pool car and viewed by another officer.
Decker, a 25-year veteran of the force, allegedly used his department-issued laptop to film the encounters with one woman asserting she did not agree to be filmed, as per initial reports, the activity, some of which spanned back to 2019, came to light on April 2 when the videos were discovered by pure happenstance by another officer who was working to identify the flash drive's owner. In the footage, there are several instances demonstrating the absence of consent from the women, who were seemingly oblivious to the recording, the misconduct extends to episodes where Decker engaged in sexual acts during times he had been investigating massage parlors for human trafficking, according to a detailed account by Fox59.
The officer's suspension and the impending termination were announced by the IMPD following the allegations, as Decker's actions raised questions regarding the abuse of his position and the violation of the trust placed in public servants. "In all of the videos, it appeared the females were unaware they were being video recorded as the recording device was set up prior to the females entering the room," IMPD Sgt. Tracy Keithley stated in the probable cause affidavit, which was cited by WISH-TV.
The Marion County court has filed eight counts of felony against Decker including voyeurism, official misconduct, and unlawful proposition after various women came forward regarding the incidents some of whom were part of investigations he pursued in local massage parlors.
