The city of Indianapolis is grappling with the aftermath of a shooting that claimed the life of a 17-year-old teenager. The incident occurred on the city's far east side yesterday evening. According to WTHR, officers responded to reports of a shooting at around 7:30 p.m. in the 11500 block of Brook Crossing Lane.
Upon their arrival, they discovered a male victim in the street, who had sustained gunshot injuries, he was pronounced dead at the scene. The Marion County Coroner's Office later identified the deceased as Dashawn Anthony Gilbert, as confirmed by FOX59. As of now, law enforcement has not released any information regarding a suspect or the motives behind the tragic event, with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) urging anyone who might have useful information to come forward.
"It’s such an unfortunate event because Halloween is supposed to be a time where you’re out with your family and having fun," IMPD Capt. Rob Rider told FOX59. "It’s a great time for the kids and to have a violent, tragic event happen in their neighborhood really is very distributing."
The IMPD is actively reviewing footage from ring doorbell cameras in the vicinity as part of their investigation. Anyone with footage or information regarding the incident is encouraged to reach out to the IMPD or contact Crime Stoppers, as mentioned by WRTV.
Anyone with relevant details is encouraged to call IMPD at 317-327-3475. You can also reach out to Crime Stoppers anonymously at 317-262-TIPS (8477).
