A 52-year-old Joliet man faces a felony charge of theft after allegedly stealing $45,000 worth of Christmas decorations from Duly Health & Care Field, the home of the Joliet Slammers. Victor Sessoms was arrested on Monday and is accused of taking three 12-foot lighted Christmas reindeer from the stadium's loading dock on Nov. 11 and 12, according to FOX 32 Chicago.
In the aftermath of the theft, the Slammers organization took to social media to decry the act, quickly dubbing the perpetrator a "Grinch." The decorations were intended to feature at their Glow Holiday Festival. According to a WGN-TV report, Sessoms is believed to have scrapped the aluminum reindeer, likely to sell as scrap metal.
Sessoms was taken into custody in the 3900 block of Cedar Creek Drive, and despite the scale of the alleged theft, he was released on notice to appear at his next court date. This move might raise discussions about the consequences of property crime and the processes involved in such cases.
The Joliet Police were able to trace the crime back to Sessoms, who allegedly used two different trucks to carry out the theft. Such cases often involve careful investigation to properly identify and apprehend suspects.
