
Early Tuesday morning in Gage Park, tragedy struck as a motorist was critically injured when he was shot in the head, causing him to crash into a building, the violent event leaving the community shaken. According to the Chicago Sun-Times, the 57-year-old victim was driving near the 3100 block of West 59th Street around 5:20 a.m. when an assailant in a silver or gold sedan opened fire on him.
The man was quickly taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn in critical condition, while a 24-year-old male passenger, who was unharmed by the gunfire, was also transported to the hospital for evaluation and was reported in good condition, NBC Chicago confirms. The assailant's vehicle, details concerning its make or model remaining scant, sped away from the scene post-haste with no arrests yet to follow as the authorities hastened their search.
Chicago police were still on the scene as of 7:30 a.m., focused on collecting evidence and cordoning off the area with yellow tape, while images circulating from the site showcased the victim's car embedded in the edifice of a brick building, from which smoke emerged. The motive and identity of the shooter are yet mysteries unsolved.
No one has been taken into custody concerning the shooting, and the area is rife with law enforcement presence, actively conducting inquiries to apprehend the person or persons behind the act.
