Pittsfield Police Department (PPD) has released details of recent shooting incidents which occurred in Pittsfield, indicating that two events may be connected. According to a social media post by PPD, last Tuesday, soon after 7:30 pm, a 34-year-old man was shot on the 100 block of First Street. His injuries are not life-threatening, and he was promptly taken to Berkshire Medical Center (BMC) for treatment.
The following night, just past 11:00 pm, officers were called out to the 20 block of Pleasant Street after a ShotSpotter activation. Corresponding with this technological alert, were multiple reports of gunfire. First responders found an 18-year-old male with a gunshot wound, once again, not life-threatening, and he, too, received medical attention at BMC. Then, earlier yesterday, at approximately 12:30 am, a second ShotSpotter alert in the same vicinity led to the discovery of shell casings; though no victims were on site, a 37-year-old man later sought treatment at BMC for a gunshot wound around 1:40 am.
Authorities are currently operating on the theory that the two Pleasant Street shootings are interconnected. However, it remains unclear if the First Street incident is related. The PPD has emphasized that these shootings do not seem to be arbitrary acts of violence.
