
A deadly encounter on I-80 in New Lenox, linked to road rage, has resulted in one fatality and the subsequent arrest of a person of interest, according to Illinois State Police. ABC7 Chicago reports the incident unfolded near the westbound entrance to I-355 at approximately 5:30 p.m.
The victim, who sustained life-threatening injuries during the shooting, was rushed to a local hospital but succumbed later, as state police confirmed. A person of interest is now in custody concerning the shooting. Following the tragic event, parts of the expressway were closed off while the investigation proceeded.
New Lenox police reported a significant law enforcement presence in the vicinity of Liberty Junior High School due to parent-teacher conferences being held on Monday night and near Francis and Marley roads. They assisted the Illinois State Police in the apprehension of the suspect, which was done without incident, as revealed by The Chicago Sun-Times.
The investigation into the shooting is ongoing. Authorities have not yet released the identities of either the victim or the person of interest. The I-80, a major thoroughfare for residents and travelers in the area, was partially shut down as the crime scene was processed, causing significant traffic delays.
