A federal jury in Salt Lake City has convicted Daniel David Egli, 50, of South Jordan, Utah, on charges of possession of child sexual abuse material. The verdict, which arrives following Egli's history as a repeat sex offender, puts him once more at the mercy of the justice system. Having been previously convicted in 2004 and 2010 for similar offenses, Egli's latest legal woes began with an indictment in June 2022.
As reported by the U.S. Department of Justice, during a spring 2021 routine supervision check, Egli was yet again found in violation of his release conditions by possessing an unauthorized laptop and smartphone. Having seized the devices, law enforcement soon issued an arrest warrant resulting in his custody the following May.
Further investigation led by the FBI and the Intermountain West Regional Computer Forensic Lab uncovered nearly 500 images of child sexual abuse material on Egli's electronic devices. This discovery underlined what had become a grim pattern of behavior, spanning decades and sealing Egli's fate with the federal charge.
The United States Attorney Trina A. Higgins of the District of Utah made the announcement, and shared the public statement, providing a clear sense of the gravity of the situation. This case is part of a larger initiative, Project Safe Childhood, dedicated to combating the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse.
With the guilty verdict established, Daniel David Egli now awaits sentencing, slated for February 27, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. The proceedings are scheduled to take place at the Orrin G. Hatch United States District Courthouse in Salt Lake City, with Egli potentially facing significant prison time for his continued violations and exploitation of the vulnerable.
