Country music fans in Fishers are in for a treat tonight as the new Fishers Event Center opens its doors, and its first act is none other than Turnpike Troubadours. The event kicks off at 6 p.m., with the band expected to draw a hefty crowd to the freshly minted 7,500-seat venue. If size is any indication, this place is not kidding around, sprawling over 53 acres and piggybacking on the already popular Fishers District lifestyle development, which itself covers 18 acres.
The project, which moved from construction chaos to high-tech entertainment hub almost overnight, has seen its share of sawdust. In the last few weeks, workers have been buzzing around putting the finishing touches to transform it from a dusty plot to one swanky, hi-fi equipped venue. And it's not just about concerts. This center, thanks to its tailored seating and acoustics, aims to strike the right note for a variety of events, including local basketball games, and even community-centric events like graduation ceremonies.
"We are thrilled to officially open the doors to this incredible venue and welcome our community to experience all it has to offer," Mitch List, the General Manager of the Fishers Event Center, said in a statement on the City of Fishers website. He lauded the years of planning and elbow grease that went into creating the space designed to be a communal hub for creating "unforgettable memories."
Fishers Mayor Scott Fadness sees the event center as a landmark moment, an "epicenter of entertainment and experience" for the community. "The Fishers Event Center will be the epicenter of entertainment and experience in our community, where neighbors, visitors, and friends come together to make lifelong memories. And we look forward to showing the world what we already know: Fishers is the best place to live, work, and play," Fadness stated on the City of Fishers website, highlighting the potential impact on local pride and tourism.
