A severe fire ravaged a home in the northwest suburbs of Crystal Lake early Monday, resulting in significant property loss and leaving several pets missing. The Crystal Lake Fire Rescue Department reported to FOX 32 Chicago that the blaze broke out around 1:15 a.m. at a residence located at 5024 Meadowlark Court.
Upon arriving within a mere five minutes, firefighters chose to not enter the home due to the intensity of the flames. Officials noted the area's lack of fire hydrants necessitated the use of water tankers to combat the fire. The flames were contained to the single affected residence, and fortunately, no other structures suffered damage. Nonetheless, the property loss is estimated at around $375,000.
In a heartbreaking twist to the event, pet cats are reportedly unaccounted for following the incident. The Lake and McHenry County Scanner disclosed that the homeowner issued a 911 call to report the fire. Although the fire department's swift response was commendable, the severity of the fire prevented them from safely entering the abode to potentially rescue the pets.
The Mutual Aid Box Alarm System (MABAS) was subsequently activated, bringing additional resources to the scene. Battalion Chief William Whyte told the Lake and McHenry County Scanner, "The area has limited fire hydrants and fire department tender trucks were called to haul water to the scene." Nearby departments from Algonquin-Lake in the Hills to Woodstock aided in the effort, showcasing a collaborative response from surrounding communities during the emergency.
