Community members in the Little Village neighborhood are on high alert following a recent child luring incident that Chicago Police are now investigating. According to a community alert from the Chicago Police Department, on December 10, a child on their way to school was approached by an unidentified white Hispanic male who attempted to lure the young student into conversation and potentially to his vehicle.
The encounter took place in the morning hours near 2400 S Trumbull Ave/3432 W 24th Street. The suspect was reportedly on foot when he first tried to wave the victim over and, after failing to engage the child, followed up in a grey GMC Acadia SUV with temporary yellow tags, where he proceeded to ask personal questions including the victim's age and social media details. The child acted commendably, crossing the street to avoid further contact, and did not respond to the suspect's questions. The man eventually fled the scene heading northbound on Homan.
Authorities are now looking for a man in his 20s to 30s with brown or black hair, olive complexion, and skinny build. The Chicago Police advises increased vigilance, asking the public to report any suspicious behavior and ensuring children are not left to walk or play unattended. They stress the importance of community awareness and recommend that parents establish a network of safe havens, like trusted businesses and neighbors, along their child's usual routes to school.
Police encourage anyone with information to contact 911 immediately.
