The city’s winter traditions kick off in January with the Festival of Ice and the Carmel Winter Games. If you enjoy creative ice carvings, this event is for you.
January 17 marks the chill commencement of the Festival of Ice, presented by Allied Solutions. This is where ice carvers, a.k.a. the cool-handed sculptors of the temporary, flex their chilliest skills. Tomorrow evening, the festivities begin in the Carmel Arts & Design District from 4 to 8 p.m. with carvers making frigid art before your very eyes, according to the City of Carmel, Indiana.
Carry that icy momentum into Saturday at Carter Green from 10 a.m. until the cold numbs your senses at 5 p.m., watching these artists chisel away. And if you're a fanatic for competitive spice, be sure to taste and cast your vote for the best chili whipped up by Carmel's bravest from the Fire Department during their cook-off from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The chili may just thaw your taste buds after all that ice.
The event wraps up on Sunday with the grand finale, featuring speed carving from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., where ice is transformed into stunning creations in no time. Winners of the "People’s Choice sculpture competition" will also be announced, as per the City of Carmel.
