A holiday shopping trip turned chaotic when gunfire broke out in Castleton Square Mall on Monday night. As reported by WISH-TV, Indianapolis police were quickly on the scene following reports of shots fired at approximately 8:29 p.m. Amid the pre-Christmas hustle, a man was wounded by gunfire and has since been reported stable at Eskenazi Hospital.
After a successful evacuation with no additional injuries, police contained the situation and already have an 18-year-old suspect, Aaron McClure, in custody. McClure faces charges of felony intimidation with a deadly weapon. "These individuals involved resorted to using gun violence again for their conflict resolution, and that does not work. You see it here, and how many families were put at risk, and how hard this is for these families, how close it is to the holidays," Officer Tommy Thompson told the media as chronicled by WISH-TV.
According to a WTHR report, the incident escalated quickly from a dispute among individuals familiar with each other to a violent confrontation resulting in the shooting. The mall, well-frequented during this time of year, was evacuated posthaste in adherence to emergency protocols. An update from IMPD affirmed a prompt arrest shortly after the incident occurred.
Statements from police further reveal that two shots were discharged—one hitting a Foot Locker store and another striking an arcade machine.
