A high-speed police chase ensued in Indianapolis on the city’s near north side, resulting in a crash that involved an IMPD SWAT vehicle and ended with four juveniles in custody. The pursuit, which occurred yesterday afternoon, started after a report of shots fired on the 2900 block of Riverside Drive East, as WTHR reported.
Northwest District officers responded around 2:45 p.m., and the chase promptly began when a suspect vehicle involved in the shots fired incident was located. The vehicle was reportedly stolen during an armed carjacking earlier in the day, according to a statement obtained by WTHR. As the pursuit unfolded, IMPD SWAT officers present in the vicinity of 30th Street and Fall Creek Parkway North Drive, attempted to block traffic to manage the chase.
The chase took a turn when the suspect vehicle collided with the SWAT vehicle, which consequently tipped onto its side. WRTV reported that after the crash, the suspect vehicle came to rest against a pole. Two male juveniles escaped on foot but were captured shortly afterwards, and two female passengers were also detained at the scene.
All four suspects, identified as two 15-year-old males, a 15-year-old female, and a 14-year-old female, were taken to a local hospital for evaluation, while the injured IMPD SWAT officer was treated for non-life-threatening injuries, according to details from FOX59/CBS4. A firearm was discovered and seized at the crash site. Police have yet to release additional information on this ongoing investigation.
